Trench Coats

A short trench coat, tied or left open

More mornings get decided by habit than by the sky. The tie is the only decision on offer, and it gets made twice in a day more often than not. Pulled in, there is a waist. Left alone, it falls straight from the shoulder. The collar sits flat or turns up to the jaw. A jumper goes underneath and the length does not change.

Trench coats and the heavier layers

Over a dress it takes the eye all the way down. Over jeans it does nothing of the sort, and that is fine. Sleeves come with a tab and a buckle at the wrist, and the cuff sits wide enough to push back. A warmer jacket sees out the last of the mild weeks. Beyond that point the heavier coats take the whole thing on. It ends up over the back of a chair more often than on a hook.
