Prominent creative, designer, entrepreneur and EC Muse Olive Cooke talks with us about the intersection of life and fashion.
Olive's approach to outfitting, inspired by beachside living, is intrinsically aligned with the ethos of Elka Collective. Taking the time to speak with us, Olive walks us through how her lifestyle has shaped her connection to style.
Being based in Byron Bay, how does the rhythm of coastal life inspire and influence your work? Are there particular textures, tones or silhouettes you gravitate towards?
Life by the coast inspires me to enjoy nature and the simplicity of each day. It encourages me to lean into classic cut pieces that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. I usually look for soft, flowy silhouettes, breezy fabrics & textures & of course a classic stripe.
Let us in on your ideal morning routine. Do you have any summer rituals that have become a norm in your everyday?
My morning routine has slowed down & changed quite a bit since having a baby. I used to get up with the sun, walk the dog, and have a swim or move my body first thing. Now, I wake up with my baby, a bit later than I used to (somehow she's made me sleep in, ha!). I make a coffee and breakfast, we eat it in the garden together & then maybe we'll have a swim in the pool or head to the beach for a dip before she goes back down to sleep. Everything feels much simpler & slower now, I'm leaning in and loving it.
What environments have shaped your sense of aesthetics over time?
I have always lived by the ocean, which has shaped my relaxed lifestyle. I love feeling effortlessly dressed; key staples, beautiful fabrics, and classic cuts with little detail are my go-to.
Have you noticed a shift in your approach to personal style since becoming a mother?
My personal style has always been based on comfort. I love to wear things daily that is also wear in the evening, just adding a little heel or jewellery to feel more "out and about". So the shift hasn't been huge just a real reliance on comfort & versatility in my wardrobe.
Are there any particular pieces that are a non-negotiable for the wardrobe? How does Elka Collective weave into your everyday looks?
I love that Elka fits so effortlessly into any wardrobe, with stunning silhouettes & timeless prints. I've been reaching for a good pair of pants, usually elasticated or, when needed, a more structured fit. I can't blame pregnancy or postpartum anymore; nine months on, a good pair of pants remains my go-to, especially in textures or stripes.
