Footwear

Four shapes of women's shoes

The weather does most of the choosing between them. Standing all day is a flat, low to the ground and closed over the toes. Sitting all evening is a heel, and no heel here climbs especially high. A sandal appears as soon as it is warm enough for one, open across the foot and held at the ankle. A boot arrives once it is not, closed to just above it.

The same shoes across a whole week

A pair goes under tailoring on a Tuesday and over the jeans on a Saturday with nothing altered in between. The toe is round on some and squared on others, and that is the part you notice from across a room. The heel sits under the foot rather than behind it. Straps run narrow, one across the foot or two.
