The winter coat sale, by length and weight

Length does most of the work here, and the longest of these come well down the leg. Weight does the rest, with the heaviest at one end and something you could carry over an arm at the other. Buttons run through the front on most, with a belt on a few. In a shorter run at the same weather, the blazers are where to look.

Trench coats at the lighter end

For the weeks that will not commit either way, a trench coat is the usual answer, belted or left open. Everything still at full price sits in the wider jackets and coats. A long one goes over a dress without shortening it. The heavier ones spend most of a day on the back of a chair rather than on a person.
